I would say that there aren't many who will dare to say that he is not a genius, a maestro of central midfield that do no only supply superb passes and setting the tempo. Almost every season, his name would be mentioned in the top 10 goals of the season. The magic he weaves not only leaves players in his wake, commentators are also not able to say much other than utter his name over and over and over again followed by GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
His long range shots are to be admired time and over. I really never get bored of watching them over and over again. My favourite would definately be the scorcher against Aston Villa. This is one of the craziest timing for a volley and the perfect weight, power and accuracy to unleash a screamer which some might say, "no keeper in this world could keep that out".
When you have players whom others have rated to be the best in the world but they are still humbled by him, that really means something about this special player :
Sir Bobby Charlton : "Paul is always so in control and pin-point accurate with his passing—a beautiful player to watch."An ideal day for Paul Scholes would be, "Train in the morning, pick up my children from school, play with them, have tea, put them to bed and then watch a bit of TV."
Zinadine Zidane : "My toughest opponent? Scholes. He is undoubtedly the greatest player of his generation"
Zinadine Zidane : "Scholes is undoubtedly the best midfielder of his generation."
Zinedane Zidane : "Scholes is almost untouchable. I never tire of watching him play. You rarely come across the complete footballer, but Scholes is as close to it as you can get."
Edgar Davids at the top of his game when at Juventus : "I'm not the best, Paul Scholes is."
Thierry Henry : "I can't understand why Scholes has never won the player of the year award. He should have won it long ago. Maybe it's because he doesn't seek the limelight like some of the other 'stars'.
Xavi : "A role model. For me, and I really mean this, he's the best central midfielder I've seen in the last 15, 20 years. He's spectacular, he has it all, the last pass, goals, he's strong, he doesn't lose the ball, vision. If he'd been Spanish he might have been rated more highly."
Patrick Vieira : "The player in the Premiership I admire most? Easy - Scholes."
Gordon Strachan : "Paul Scholes has been the best England midfield player for 30-odd years. You'd probably have to go back to Bobby Charlton to find someone who could do as much as Scholes. When the ball arrives at his feet he could tell you where every player on that pitch is at that moment. His awareness is superb."
Phil Neville : "I used to love seeing him receive a ball he had eyes in the back of his head he knew were everyone was on the pitch! I used to love seeing him charge into tackles — he did that in training too! But most of all every goal he scored was a great goal. Volley, header, you name it, he scored it."
Kevin Keegan : "What United have got that Chelsea haven't is Paul Scholes. I think he is different to anything else in English football."
Glen Hoddle : "There isn’t a player of his mould anywhere in the world."
Eric Harrison on leaving him out of a playing team : "If looks could kill … and I’m sure Paul invented it!"
Eric Harrison : "He always seems to have eyes in the back of his head. He always seems to know where every player is on the pitch and which direction they’re moving in. That means he can read the game brilliantly and assess the angles to split even the tightest of defences with a single pass.”
Sir Alex Ferguson : "If we get to the Final, I will be selecting 10 players because Paul Scholes will already be on my team sheet"
Pictures (in this case clips) are worth a thousand words :
Paul Scholes, he scores goals!
Paul Scholes, he makes goals!
One of the craziest and seemingly most effortless assist on the 6.00 in the clip.
I was seeing stars when I saw the 2.08 goal for the very first time.
Not many have scored goals like that on 4.18
Messi standing watching 0.37
Alas the Ginger Prince finally feels that his body can no longer take it and the world will now lose one of its greatest role model. A footballer who cares not of the limelight nor the fame, he just wants to play his football and then get back to his family. A man of not many words and very dedicated to his job and family.
My favourite number is 18 and he wears it on his back. Perhaps that is why he is favourite player. He was the key that unlocks plays, the heart of Old Trafford, the ghost who is able to sneak past defenders, the controller in midfield and scorer of long ranged goals. Paul Scholes is not just a legend, he is a fucking GOD for crying out loud!
Lastly, the most amazing thing that I know about him is that he is asthamatic!!! FUCK, how the hell do you run around the pitch chasing after balls and scoring goals if you have breathing problems???
