莫文蔚&張洪量 - 广岛之恋

Caught up with another oldies when it was broadcasted over the radio. This is one of the few rare songs which the title is not in the song. Maybe that is why it is not posted here before :p One of my all time favorites that is for sure!

Oldies are indeed goldies! I reminisced while this song was airing however the content is unfortunately another somewhat melancholic song. The lyrics hits it where it hurts most, the truth... Sudden memories might bring up something which you do not want to remember and all the feelings seem to rush back in :(

At least I get to hear some songs which I am not too familiar with so that I can expand my knowledge instead of just sticking to singers whom I always listen to.

Double Three Hotel

I have finally checked in today, another achievement unlocked, leveled up another time etc. Unlike the previous years, I would have taken leave to just laze around in the house BUT today, I had to attend a meeting which was long overdue so can't really avoid that.

I got to the best start of the day by taking a wrong turn and added a couple of more kilometers to my journey to office. A surprise was in store for me in the office because my boss was at my office (normally she is at another office) and we did some catch up aka more work.

For lunch, I head back to my old company for their Raya Open House and supposedly a birthday celebration but there wasn't even a cake so I just did some more catch up with my old gang. I have to admit that I miss them very much.

The upside to this year perhaps is that I have a trip coming up in November to Korea :) Looking forward to seeing some kimchi girls, visit some of the places which always brings a smile to my face and taste some of the delicious looking foods.

Can't catch a break in the cinemas

Today I wanted to use a discount coupon to go kill some time so just picked any lousy movie which matched my time and voila. The problem is some people take things for granted and do disgusting things in the dark.

The story goes that the movie was shown without subtitles which was effing great! When it was realized, they stopped the movie and inserted the subtitles part into the movie (so there is something like a srt file for cinemas too it seems). Anyways, it was a long break between the stopping of the movie and showing it again with the subtitles. The lights were turned on, lo and behold a couple who initially had a girl raised her legs to be put above the chair in front of them and then the guy followed. Thinking that it was their home or something, they both started to wriggle their toes. After a short time which made me seriously sick to my stomach, I can't let this one slide so I MUST SHAME THESE FUCKERS!!!

Knowing full well that I will be ILLEGALLY taking pictures in the cinema, I turned on the flash so that it will alert those motherfuckers and hopefully have them stop doing that disgusting act. I took a picture and unfortunately the pre-flash alerted them too early and the girl probably due to embarrassment tried to very quickly  retract her legs but fortunately for her, I could not capture her face else I would have uploaded it onto Facebook at that very moment in the cinema!

I really felt like going in front to take a picture of their faces!

I hope the fuckers in this picture will find this picture and be ashamed of your useless self. If I ever see such things again, I will definitely take pictures of your faces!

World Cup fever

If you had not been around the past month, there was a super hot topic discussed even by the females who (MOST OF THEM) have no idea what football is about but were totally excited about it. I was totally taken aback during lunch on the day of Brazil's mauling by Germany. ALL of the tables were talking about the same topic although the girls practically have no idea what it means because many of them admitted that they had to Google up what's the story about after hearing all the guys talk about it in their office.

Anyways, that is not really what I want to talk about but rather something that might have caught the attention of some people i.e. the name of the players :p Due to language differences and cultures, there have been many interesting names, here are just a few that I can think of:

Neymar = Niama (rude Cantonese for your mother)
Blind = well not really blind but rather pronounced blee-ind
Immobile = OMG, what the heck is he doing on the pitch LOL, im-mo-bill-leh
Messi = well his previous haircut does make him messy :p
Hulk = he ain't green but he BIG
Oscar = not the statue itself BUT he did put in many deserving performances which might deserve 1
Song = no tune at all
Aguilar = Ah gila!
Bravo = he did put in a performance worthy of hailing BRAVO!
Krul = pronounced cruel or to that effect
James Rodriguez = Hammes Rodriguez, I wouldn't have known it was pronounced that way ...
Bony = he got muscles with that
Honda = conquering on the world stage, heck yeah
Sakai = err, no need to explain I suppose
Costly = *sweat*
Klose = before the start of the World Cup, he was close to breaking all the time scoring record. His name is pronounced as clause-r or something to that effect
Gotze = he doesn't have a goatee :p His name is pronounced as goat-ze
Kroos = you can say that he is the cruise control of the Germany team
Hazard = not really that hazardous in the World Cup. Pronounced ah-zard
Kompany = the defence is quite tight normally when you are in his company :p

The pronunciation parts are just my own way of making it out so it will definitely NOT be accurate. It was great to be able to see some of the players which I had interest in, in my Football Manager games and got to watch them play in real life. Had an even better time with my close friends watching together, even those who are normally NOT into football joined in =)

Now I can get back into my normal sleeping cycle after a couple of weeks of sleep deprivation.

My first expensive bag

Well, technically not mine but rather it's for my mother. Her reaction was just as I expected because she is not familiar with the brand at all. Oh well, I have talked to my colleague about this for quite some time and finally I got the chance. Would have preferred to get a cheaper one but I think this one is quite a beauty, a Michael Kors bag :p

Was shown this picture before purchase
Black color was bought by another friend. They say blue is better?
Can be used 2 ways, like this
 and like this

To those who knows something about this brand, is it true that the price in Malaysia is almost always over RM1000? Well, mine is of course lower than that but still it was quite a hefty sum to be very honest. At least it is not costing me a couple of thousands like most of the bags which I see many females are carrying around...

Music in my ears ... again

Previously I have bought a very low end bluetooth wireless earphone. I think it didn't even lasted 6 months and the shop which sold me that could not be found anymore. Oh well, that just means more quiet train rides to and fro work. I got through that by doing something else ie flipping Flipboard and now reading manga.

Recently I found a good deal and reconsidered to get music into my journey again. This time I am getting something from a more reputable brand, hopefully it will fare much better and serve me well.

When I was at my previous company, a colleague of mine tried to poison me everyday with his RM1500 headphone which of course helped him concentrate on work since it has noise cancellation. Ever since then I have been searching for a more affordable solution since I definitely cannot afford RM1000+ headphones.

Researched high and low for a cheaper alternative but it was an impossible task if noise cancellation was part of the criteria so I had to give up that option. With that out of the window, the price ranges dropped significantly. However, I had some other requirements which I cannot give in ie over-ear type, wireless and foldable. Wireless especially limited the options but I came down to 2 candidates which was Rapoo H6080 and Edifier W670BT. Both were in the price range which I could afford without losing sleep over.

I like Rapoo's foldability but eventually I picked Edifier because they are more specialized in making sound related devices although I am no music enthusiast. Reviews would normally favor makers with sound background so that also swayed my decision. I was quite contented with Rapoo's ability to match my requirements but in the end, experience have taught me to perhaps pay a little more to get the better product which will pay off better in the end.

Introducing my Edifier W670BT:

Another feature which I have not mentioned and will most likely be irrelevant in day to day usage unless your work requires you to travel frequently via airplanes. The ability to use the wireless headphone as a wired headphone. This means that you can still use the headphone in situations which only allows for wired and when your headphone ran out of battery.

My Mi

There is a sudden rush of craze these past months of a certain brand. A brand that is trying to generate loads of hype and seems to be able to keep it. I couldn't post this earlier because I have met with failure in my earlier attempts to procure merchandise made by them but not anymore :D

On my 4th try, I FINALLY managed to get the extremely affordable powerbanks made by Xiaomi. I was over the moon and realized that I could have gotten it earlier if I was not so stubborn with using my preferred browser. Everything was so smooth and I didn't encounter the "carrot" error messages at all! Anyways, that is not the point of this post :p

I always call this powerbank as "a quality product at pasar malam price" because it is an absolute steal if you compare it to what the current market is flushed with. Fake powerbanks some carrying major names and sold at prices just a tad higher than this. So even when I already own more than 2 previously very good brand powerbanks, I will want to just get these because the prices are too insane NOT to!

My powerbanks went on a tour of East Asia first before landing in Malaysia.

 An inconspicuous package received
The package was packed in a way that it was very heavy on 1 side but at least the content will not be flying around in the oversized box
The initial non-descript box has a label that reassures me that I go the correct item =D
 All of the boxes content
Yep, it's 10400 mAH as I have made payments for
Still "virgin" for now

My charger is occupied at night so I can't prep this long awaited powerbank to be used so I guess it will have to wait until a charger is freed up to fully charge it.

I, Mercenary

I always hear from my friends and colleagues that we should have a mercenary mind. But wait a minute what is a mercenary? According to dictionary.com, it means "working or acting merely for money or other reward" By this definition, I think so many of you out there are the same but in my mind, I wanted to try to work for the highest bidder of which I have seen seems to be quite handsomely paid =D

Thus after trying many years to be able to be a mercenary, I changed 2 jobs in less than 6 months before which I stayed with my first company for almost 9.5 years. I thought to myself, I have made up my mind and be committed to making this change to try to get top dollar. This also means that I will have to venture into unknown territories ie perform unknown work.

For my first jump, it was pretty relaxed at first and it was mainly still within my comfort zone. But then came the lure of benefits which I previously had so I thought it was a better offer once again hence I went ahead for my second.

In my second jump ie now, a major part of the work is focused on a specific area which I also had experience with. However as days passed, I find that it might be a little too much for me to chew. I felt trapped at my desk whereas previously I was able to move around meeting people from various other departments and vendors. Now is all about paperwork and my attention span is close to non-existent :p

There is a great weight of expectation and a menacing shadow looking over my shoulders. It is not to say I am not able to do the work but it would be better or faster if I can be pointed into a more specific direction instead of letting me wander around looking for the right path like a blind person but is expected to reach the destination like a normal person might be able to in a new place. Sigh...

The thought of wanting to switch again or perhaps go return to where I originally started is looking a whole more attractive. Unfortunately, it looks absolutely bad on my resume to be not able to last 1 year on a new job but it is so very tempting to want to be able to do something which I may like better than now. Decisions decisions...

Manga reading on my phone

Roughly more than 1 month ago I saw a guy reading manga while riding the bus. I was thick faced enough to ask him what app was that and quickly installed it when I got to my seat in office. The app is called Manga Rock.

At the top of the popular list of manga is of course Naruto, Fairy Tail and Bleach. In summary that means that I will be able to read those new popular manga while I am on my way to work or home. After reading up to the latest release, I found that these long series will have a similar theme. Fairy Tail loves to use time ie deadlines (ironically just like real life work, LOL) and the characters somehow refuse to die or will not be out of energy no matter how tired they claim to be. Recuperation rate is too unbelievable in my opinion. Bleach on the other hand is somewhat like Dragon Ball, there will ALWAYS be someone stronger and the main character will somehow managed to get stronger but not before getting his ass kicked. Ichigo (the main character, a guy whose name means strawberry =_=||| how gay is that!!!) reminds me so much of Son Goku that he uses his strength to help his friends more often than not ignoring his own safety but always coming out on top.

I also managed to finish reading the real stories of some of the anime which I have watched. The stories vary quite a far bit and I take side with the people who have read it before watching the anime that the stories in the manga is much better than the anime though it is much faster to watch and it might also explain some scenes which have no script or interesting fight scenes which cannot be properly portrayed using still pictures.

When I really think about it, there are so many manga which I want to read now that I don't seem to have enough time to finish them all :( It has crossed my mind quite a few times to re-read old manga ie Dragon Ball and Rurouni Kenshin but those might have to wait quite some while :p

I find this as the funniest in between fillers ROFLMAO. Frankly speaking I didn't get it until almost the end of the series :Þ

Good advice

I was once struck down hard with probably what some people might call depression because of a significant event that changed the way I looked at things. I was really blinded by what I perceived to be important. A friend of mine gave me a big slap to wake me up and although it was uneasy or difficult to accept but I came to realize that she was indeed right. I looked back at what happened to me and started to realize many things which I was not able to see at all before this. It was extremely surprising to me that I was oblivious to such so many glaring events, of which I have come to accept and regret my stupidity.

What's the advice?

A very good one, IMHO

Not sure why, the first song that springs to my mind about advice is:
Alanis Morissette - Ironic

An old man turned ninety-eight
He won the lottery and died the next day
It's a black fly in your Chardonnay
It's a death row pardon two minutes too late
And isn't it ironic... don't you think

It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought... it figures

Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids goodbye
He waited his whole damn life to take that flight
And as the plane crashed down he thought
"Well isn't this nice..."
And isn't it ironic... don't you think

It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought... it figures

Well life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
When you think everything's okay and everything's going right
And life has a funny way of helping you out when
You think everything's gone wrong and everything blows up
In your face

A traffic jam when you're already late
A no-smoking sign on your cigarette break
It's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife
It's meeting the man of my dreams
And then meeting his beautiful wife
And isn't it ironic...don't you think
A little too ironic...and, yeah, I really do think...

It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought... it figures

Life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
Life has a funny, funny way of helping you out
Helping you out

Some people think they understand BUT ...

if you were never in my shoe, I don't believe will come even close to what is really happening. Although there are very wise people around but they may know in general NEVER the exact, what's worse is that they THINK they know but in actual fact they don't and that makes things so very much worse.

It may be strange to announce that although a person may be surrounded by people BUT that person is actually very lonely. I think we can see this with celebrities sometimes, they are the supposed center of attention BUT it's probably not the kind of attention that they truly want/seek.

Do you understand???

Titled but unworthy

I think this week I sent back to school again =_=||| Feels very much like a small child being lectured by adults who have walked over more bridges than the roads I have ever traveled or have consumed as much salt particles as the grains of rice that I ever had.

I suppose that is why those kind of people are where they are because that is what they bring to the table. Although still related to the field which I like but I think I am at least a couple of years behind my colleague.

What made me worry was the way they deal with people here. Today an email was sent out to everyone in my company, the content tells of 4 senior managers, ALL of whom have worked in the company for more than 15 years at the very least were "let go" and their departments restructured. Their staff were only told end of last week. It feels so not right despite we all know that they all got a handsome fee which some refer to as the "golden handshake".

Sends a shiver down my spine thinking about those loyal people, good people who have given most of their life for the company to be "let go" in such a manner. It was rumored that they have discussed and thought about this matter before accepting the "golden handshake" but perhaps my experience with my previous company was that they were too good to their loyal employees.

As I always say, my title in the company does not mean much because it is just a way for HR to place me within their pay scale or better known as salary range. In this sense, I am just another salaryman just like most of you guys out there :)

Now that's a catch

I saw someone shared this and I think this will be anyone's catch of their life :)

I don't really like beer that much so I will just skip that and follow the rest of the instruction :p Now where does one find such a catch?

Introvert

I thought I knew the meaning of this word because I consider myself to be an introvert person. I had interviewed a person a couple of months ago and he claimed to be an introvert of which I thought he go the meaning wrong and (thinking too highly of myself) I went and corrected him by giving him "examples" of how and introvert person would actually be.

It seems to me after some checking and reading today, I was not entirely accurate in understanding the meaning of introvert too. Makes me feel a little ashamed of myself, not to mention my an hero explanation to the interviewee =_=|||

Anyways, it seems that someone have already compiled some characteristics which might indicate whether you are an introvert. Though the list is sort of like a guide only and frankly speaking some of it are so general that almost anyone will have it. After going it through it, I checked almost 70% of the items listed. So I guess I am one after all.

So are you an introvert as well?

Some words of encouragement...

I came across this in Facebook recently and found it to be very positive. After a double blow in November, there was a positive in December but a costly one though. So that still makes it -1. Had some ups and downs recently but things can only reach so low for so long hence the words of encouragement for single parents given were awesome =D
1. "You're strong enough to raise the kids on your own, whether you believe it or not. It's built into your DNA."
2. "Make sure you schedule time for you. A single parent can burn out fast if they don't take a breather once in a while."
3. "Don't expect your kids to start acting like adults just because you're on your own.Do not discuss problems related to your ex or finances with them -- and never expect them to take sides. I took this advice to heart and eight years later, my kids are well-adjusted."
4. "Realize that there's a possibility that your ex is only going to be a parent for the kids when it's convenient for him or her. Some parents become glorified playmates after divorce."
5. "It takes a village even you're a single parent -- don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it."
6. "Know that no matter how much love you shower your child with, they will always wonder why the other parent isn't there or doing the same."
7. "You'd be surprised how quiet the house gets -- and how lonely you get -- once the kids are sleeping and there's no more mothering to do."
8. "One stable, consistent, present parent can successfully raise children!"
9. "Being a single custodial parent is really hard on relationships. I'm a guy with a daughter. Women can be jealous."
10. "Make sure you surround yourself with positive supportive people. Get rid of the negative ones. Never lose track of who you are because you have to be there for your kids. Just breathe and know that it get better."
11. "You're only one person; let go of trying to do everything on your own."
I personally like number 8 LOL
